What did you learn from Welles Crowther, "the man in the red bandana?" What do you plan to do to stay on track with your dreams, answer your calling, or have more honor? Leave your comments on the blog :o)
I learned that anyone can be a hero if they have the will. To stay on track I will always remember that fearless man, who saved many peoples' lives, without stopping to think about his own.
I learned from Welles that being selfless is a trait that everyone should posess because it takes strength, honor and courage to be a hero such as he was. Everytime I look at my red bandana, I will always remember to stop thinking about myself and my problems and remember that there was a courageous man who on the day of such a tragic event, put aside his safety and found the strength and courage to save others lives.
From Welles story, I learned that there are true heroes among us, and that all of us should strive to be as courageous and selfless as Welles every single day. I also learned to appreciate those around us, because they can be taken away on any clear, blue sky morning. Welles also lived a successful life and followed his dreams until his dying hour. I will make the effort to follow in his footsteps.
Welles story in my opinion is truly inspirational, it not only teaches us to follow our dreams but it further proves the idea that there are real heroes among the crowded smoky alley called life.In addition, the didactic film and event taught me that in life one of the most beautiful things is changing someone's life--something I've always taken into account and hope to one day complete, whether it is an individual or many, it will ultimately help the Earth rest light on me. Furthermore, Welles followed his "personal legend," something I believe we should all do, in the end it will make us proud of our beings and existence even minutes if not seconds before death awaits you at the end of that alley we walk through our lifetime. I also wanted to mention that I agree with what Lanny said and I quote "Every time I look at my red bandana, I will always remember to stop thinking about myself and my problems and remember that there was a courageous man who on the day of such a tragic event..." Although, I'd like to add that in my case it will help me remember that changing someone's life is one if not the most beautiful thing in this crippled world of ours.
The story of Welles is one of the most inspiring stories to ever come out of the horror that is 9/11. The tale of a man who, even when facing certain doom, followed his dreams to the bitter end, resonates with many of the stilted and the inert in our society, not just the teenagers but adults who have become cynical to the world as the failure of following their hopes destroys them. The story taught me to appreciate that it is important to understand and your place in life, and then try to succeed it any way you can, even in dire times.
Welles' story is one of inspiration. It made me realize that we cannot be selfish in this world, and that when problems arise, we should help others and not only think of ourselves. What inspired me the most was that in his last moments, Welles was able to fulfill his dream of becoming a firefighter and helping people, and when I look at the red bandana, I will always think of Welles and the sacrifice he made to help others.
Welle's story proved to me how important it is to chase your dream and enjoy life because you never know what can happen or how long you will last. I plan on sticking to my gut feeling and chasing whatever career feels right. (cardiology for now)I keep my red bandana in my room where I can be reminded of how it is important to be selfless and help others who are in need.
