Reminder :o)

Remember, I want you to carefully read and annotate the sample paper I distributed last class. The more you can dissect and analyze the writing, the better! Also, assign a mark to the paper based on the mark scheme I gave you. We'll discuss it tomorrow.

Also remember, you will be tested on your lit. devices tomorrow. I've put together a quick review for the ones you expressed were most difficult.

See you tomorrow. :o)

For pronunciation, here are examples: ODIOUS would be pronounced OH-DEE-US; BREVITY would be BREH-VIH-TEE. "Other forms" is how else the word can be used. For example, SATIRE could also be in the form of SATIRICAL. You may have more than one form per word, while some other words may not have any other forms. Dictionary.com or Thesaurus.com will help for all columns.

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

Due Tuesday, 11/1:

For your SL/IM bookmark for chapters 12-15/13-16, you need to create your own; however, there are some guidelines:

Side 1:
TOP - include the title of the novel and the chapters
MIDDLE - As you read, look for how our vocab words from Unit 5 relate to the text (you are NOT looking for the word, just how certain words could apply)  Then write each of the seven words and explain how each one relates
BOTTOM - your name and period number

Side 2:
TOP - a title of two to four words that encompasses all five chapters (must utilize a lit tool or syntactical structure in the title)
MIDDLE - an image (drawn or a graphic) that depicts your title
BOTTOM - 7 lit tools/syntactical structures found in these chapters.

This must be typed (except for the drawing), and should be no bigger than 3.5" by 11"

BE CREATIVE!

YOUR POWERPOINTS ARE ALSO DUE TUESDAY.

You must have one slide for each word, including all of the following:
- the vocabulary word (large)
- part of speech
- a brief definition
- a caption that includes the word and context clues, describing your picture.

Be sure that your slides are pleasing to the eye, the fonts are easy to read, and you use the proper GPS (grammar, punctuation, and spelling).

I'm looking forward to AMAZING presentations!  :o)

Home Learning (to be completed after Tuesday's class)

For Vocabulary Unit 2, complete vocab cards. Print a few copies of the cards then fill them out appropriately, cut them, and paperclip them (Vocab Cards). You can print pictures to glue onto the cards, or you can draw your own. The key is that you find an image that helps you remember the word...not the first one to show up on Google images. In addition, all boxes MUST be completed...and your sentences must contain some kind of context clue (also, be sure to use the word in the correct part of speech). There is no need to do cards for the ROOTS or PREFIXES. This assignment will be due Thursday, 9/8/11.

Make sure to click the links within the directions above to access your word list and vocab cards.
