For Monday, read and highlight the President's Back-to-School speech.  Highlight the ethos in yellow, pathos in pink and logos in blue.  Also, CIRCLE 3 literary devices you find, and UNDERLINE 3 syntactical structures.  Be sure to label them.  :o)

Does the arrangement of the president's speech follow the classical model? If so, bracket & identify the sections in the left margin.

Remember, too, your presentations are scheduled for Monday.  Let me know if you need anything from me or my help to make your lesson a success!  I am looking forward to creative, engaging activities!  :o)

One more thing:  get a copy of either The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne or Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison by next week.  :o)

Homework - Due Thursday, 9/22:  Create a crossword puzzle using all of the unit 3 words.
Use synonyms, antonyms, and sentence completion as clues to fill in the blanks.
DO NOT include a word bank--that will defeat the purpose of the puzzle!
You must turn in 2 copies: a blank crossword puzzle as well as an answer key.
We will use your puzzles to review before the assessment.  :o)
What did you learn from Welles Crowther, "the man in the red bandana?"  What do you plan to do to stay on track with your dreams, answer your calling, or have more honor?  Leave your comments on the blog :o)

Home Learning (to be completed after Tuesday's class)

For Vocabulary Unit 2, complete vocab cards. Print a few copies of the cards then fill them out appropriately, cut them, and paperclip them (Vocab Cards). You can print pictures to glue onto the cards, or you can draw your own. The key is that you find an image that helps you remember the word...not the first one to show up on Google images. In addition, all boxes MUST be completed...and your sentences must contain some kind of context clue (also, be sure to use the word in the correct part of speech). There is no need to do cards for the ROOTS or PREFIXES. This assignment will be due Thursday, 9/8/11.

Make sure to click the links within the directions above to access your word list and vocab cards.
